I'll start by saying that I'm a big fan of content marketing, like any other reader of Copyblogger.
And for good reason.
When it comes to selling online, there's not much that makes customers more easily than the quality of the content.
If you put in the time it takes to get useful, authoritative articles that provide real value to potential customers, you're half way to the Bank before clients even land on your site.
But should any company or blog use only one method to get more customers?

The Answer Is Twitter.
After the content marketing, the second most successful way that I land clients is via Twitter.
Here's how I do it:
Step 1
I click in the search box in my Hootsuite dashboard (you can do the same in Twitter).
Step two
I'm looking for phrases that match the services I offer, then I'll comb through the results and find tweets that match people looking out for my services.
Step three
Finally, I click through to blogs to tweets that match my criteria and do one of three things: 1) leave a comment 2) send a message via the contact form 3) send an e-mail message if the address is specified.
That's all I'm doing.
This is so successful that I landed more clients this way than through content marketing alone.
Of course, meaningful content increases the likelihood that they will sign on the dotted line (or click Paypal account), so that content is still reigns as the King.
What inspired this method lead generation?
How to solve for the cool Twitter clients on Twitter? (It's that cold calling is called in the Twittersphere?)
That's response: he came from a piece of print newspapers.
The article discussed the business owner who tried to use a blog (content marketing) to land more clients.
It was a rough time without landing many clients. In the end he decided that content marketing is not for him.
His reasoning went something like this: "in two or more hours a week to write blog content, the best way to get more customers, or would that be better spent cold call?"
His answer was the last, he decided that he got a call back from the cold. He believed this was the best scenario for him.
But there is an alternative.
Rather than relying solely on the content of marketing or making it up as too strict (although not kid ourselves ... It does work), select the option is to use content marketing as one of many tools in your inbox marketing.
A good Internet marketing strategy starts with the content as its base.
Then you must find other ways to reach potential clients as Twitter method outlined above. You can go old-school (cold calling, direct mail or even showing up at showcases potential customers — while going too far to find their home address and knock on the door). Or you can use the new methods such as pay-per-click advertising and social media networks.
It should be noted that effective marketing program consists of more than one instrument. Not great content (at least at first) for readers to find all by itself. You must promote it.
Reach potential customers on Twitter works best when he sends them to a blog that demonstrate your competence.
Cold call, the client will be more successful when you have a well-designed website, showcasing a portfolio of your best work.
So next time you think of giving up on the blog, because it requires, or you don't see any awards yet, don't forget that content marketing works best in combination with other instruments in the field of marketing.
Don't forget, as a simple Twitter search can get you more clients, especially when it is combined with an effective marketing strategy.
In other words diversifying.
You'll be happy you did.
